The lab keeps tree generation, GPU resource ownership, culling, animation, camera state, and timing outside React; React only hosts the canvas and controls. What it demonstrates - Deterministic tree topology generated from a seed, with ancient, storm-swept, split, sentinel, and pine growth forms. - Joined procedural trunk geometry with painted bark atlases and animated branch wind. - Upright camera-facing foliage cards with SDF relief, four Inkwell palettes, multiple crown structures, and leaf styles. - GPU culling and indirect drawing across near, middle, far, horizon, and skyline tiers. - Mesh-derived, multi-angle impostors for distant trees, with the same seed, silhouette, bark, and foliage palette as their source tree. - A dense inner forest and progressively simplified horizon population without keeping one expanded transform record per candidate. - Built-in frame, GPU-pass, geometry-build, atlas, visibility, and memory metrics. The main forest renderer is raw WebGPU. Three.js is used for CPU-side procedural geometry utilities and for the one-time local impostor-atlas bake when a tree preset is created.
