This repository contains both the text of the novella and the open-source hacker-press publishing pipeline that compiles it. If you just want to read the book, head over here to read the HTML version (with a built-in, synchronized audiobook player ) or download the EPUB, PDF, MP3 audiobook, MP4 audiobook video, Man Page, or GNU Info outputs. That's right, you can read it as a man page or with GNU info : If you want to see how a single markdown file is brutally parsed into eight different formats using Python, Pandoc (with Lua AST filters), Docker, Piper TTS, Playwright, ffmpeg, ebooklib , WeasyPrint, and BeautifulSoup, this repo might be of interest to you. --- Building it yourself Prerequisites pandoc and makeinfo on your $PATH . Python via uv . TTS requires a local piper-tts clone. Set PIPER PATH in your .env file to point at it. Video build ( --video ) requires Playwright with Chromium ( uv run playwright install chromium ) and ffmpeg on your $PATH . Setup & Build All compiled artifacts will be placed in the output-documents/ directory. See the hacker-press README for the full CLI reference, semantic conventions, and extension points.
